IPTV(Internet Protocol Television) means the delivery of television channels over the internet.
It requires a high-speed internet connection for smooth streaming and delivery of content.
The trend of watching television over the internet is increasing in Nepal with the launch of IPTV applications, NetTv Nepal mobile app, and IPTV set-top-box being most popular among the people. Broadlink ISP is also providing IPTV service to its customers, while its Android application BroadTV is still under development phase.
A few days back, another IPTV application, WOW TIME was launched featuring the linear tv and VOD OTT service.This application is available for both android and ios platform. It includes more than 130 channels, movies, FM radio and TV shows.
To use the app, users first need to register an account providing a name and a valid Nepal Telecom number to receive a confirmation code. Then users will be able to buy data packs to watch premium channels and movies, radio, and shows. Purchase can be made using other payment services in near future. But all the premium channels and movie content will be provided free of cost during this Dashain-Tihar festive season to all the users.
Live Tv and Movies section of WOW TIME is almost identical to NetTV Nepal application in its UI context. So, I felt no different while navigating to those sections. It has good look and stable appearance. Most of the channels were streaming with the resolution of 640x360, which was just average quality for me but good for my internet connection to maintain smooth streaming. WOW TIME provides movies only from Youtube using embed feature. That means in its initial release, users will be provided only limited movies. Thus in the current version, there is no category for English movies.
WOW TIME powered by NTC is expected to provide IPTV service comparatively at a cheap price. Though the application is showing bugs during registration and run-time in its first release, people will love to use application if the premium contents will be cheaper as expected.
